Trust a Linnifian: having an open mind is a craft

This is an official invitation to the third testimonial of the series, or as we like to call it: Trust a Linnifian.

Today's Linnifian is Adina Oros, an open mind that is excited to craft a wider perspective into the future.

'You are about to read my attempt at capturing what an internship at Linnify feels like. I hope I’ll be able to find the appropriate words that can describe the kind of company Linnify is because, trust me, it’s not your 'next-door Alice' of companies.

So here goes my story.'

What made the 'click' in your decision?

'I was lucky enough to have a Linnifian as a Lab Assistant at University and find out about Linnify from her (thanks Andrada, you are the queen of matching people to the places they belong to).

'I was instantly smitten with the idea of working in an environment where people seek and praise authenticity and vision since I view myself as somehow unconventional.'

Little did I know the experience ahead of me would change the way I see an ideal work environment to an even better one. I never thought that going to a summer internship would actually be that fun, full of ‘aha’ moments and surprises.'

How did the journey begin?

'Together with some of my best friends at Uni, I applied for the Digital Transcendence Internship of 2020. I was scheduled for an interview after passing the admission test. The interview was such a telling glimpse of the life and work of Linnify, that I instantly knew I wanted to be part of it.

'I wanted it bad.'

And the 'gods' of unconventional personalities and authentic individuals were on my side, and the very next day I got the news that I was accepted. Not only me but also some of my friends at Uni had gotten in.

'We were up for a great 6-week journey. I like traveling, so journeys get me excited and the one at Linnify did not disappoint.'

We were soon met with the internship project ahead of us, the team was made, the roles were delegated, the fun was going to be had.'

Did this feel like an introduction to the future?

'I might sound like a total nerd, but learning the secrets of web development and understanding the behind-the-scenes of working in a tech company after years of theoretical studies was actually what I needed to bring more clarity in my vision towards the future.'

'It shifted something in the way I view my work and it felt like opening a door towards my professional life.'

The much-desired balance between seriousness and fun

'I think professional could be the word of the day in terms of how I've seen the internship program. Even though it seemed like the whole team was a group of friends, the cool type that lets you sit at their table, everything we did felt so real and so well calculated without it feeling like an exhausting compromise, the way I used to picture the workforce.

We had mentors guiding us through this journey, we had challenges to overcome and we had every occasion to get to know each other just the way we are.

'Technology might be complex, but interactions with people should be easy and natural.'

This is something that I found at Linnify. If you ask me, this is the only way forward if we want to create work environments where people feel comfortable, accepted, creative, and ready to change the world.

Besides being surrounded by a great team in a creative work environment, this internship was full of surprises.

To this day I wonder how could a bunch of people that work the real work in the real world spend the extra time to create a full-on experience for the six of us interns: from games to the hackathon, to movie nights and workshops, it was all there and all we had to do is be sponges and absorb all the free goodness and add building blocks to our knowledge and personality.'

Now, back to the future

'Now I work at Linnify as a Web Developer. I can honestly say that I can’t see myself wanting to go anywhere else. I have done and still am doing so much growing and I have been part of such a great team.

I believe in our work, in our vision and I feel ready to share some of my experience with new people, so don’t shy away and apply now for yet another exciting internship program.

Our digital projects focus on simplifying users' experiences in Health, Wellbeing, Education, and other Life sciences. So, if you dare to fully transcend your experiences, if you dream about making a change if you are mad about coding and see beyond it, just push play. 

With around 500 aspiring candidates per year, we started to better manage the difficult task of picking the ones who resonate most with our values. For over the eight weeks, the interns at Linnify are not only invited to become part of the team but to also have a taste of what it’s like to authentically own your growth and become confident in the future you envision.

At the end of your Full Digital Transcendence internship, you will have a better understanding of three key digital characteristics: 

• How to create software products fit for a market.
• What makes a product design attractive and engaging.
• How to express a vision into a digital product through front and backend.

As you probably guessed by now, you brainiac, this year we go full-stacked. Front-end: Angular/Typescript, backend: Python/ NodeJS and cloud: Google Cloud. 

The first act of the internship consists of three weeks of mentored learning: getting to know the technologies, to then be able to move to the five-week second act: coding on a project.
